Geek Feminism blog

I have started blogging over on the Geek Feminism blog. My first post:

The Thank-You Meme: The coreboot project

This one’s for you, Matthew. :)

Some years ago, I quit women in open source activism because it wasn’t clear to me that my work was having any positive effect on the world. (It was definitely having a negative effect on my world!) I still haven’t answered the question of how to best use my time to help women in open source, but I’m dipping my toes back into the water for this one. Thanks to Kirrily Robert for getting me inspired again.

  1. I’m really glad that you’re looking at engaging in this again. You’ve inspired a lot of people into thinking about the issue, and I’d also like to say thanks for the encouragement you’ve given me over the years.

  2. Your post made me realize — I don’t think I ever said thanks to the LinuxChix coordinators for the mass of effort that that undertaking involved. I learned a lot from my participation there; sometimes inadvertently so (like when the grrls-only list was created, IIRC). So thank you for your role there; I’m going to make a point of telling the past & present coordinators the same.

Thanks also for your work on linux filesystems and tulip — without them, I wouldn’t have a way to get bits to my computer, or any place to put them once they got there. =)
